On a recent afternoon, a pub in the west Melbourne suburb of Footscray found itself out of booze, though no-one was short of a drink.
A lively crowd of predominantly women milled about the Victoria Hotel with a range of beers, wines and cocktails — each drink containing no, or barely detectable, amounts of alcohol.
Titled the Pub With No Booze — carrying the aim of "challenging the status quo" of drinking culture in Australia — it stood as a testament to the much-documented rise of the non-alcoholic drinks movement.
